The general manager of Access NI, Tom Clarke, has urged organisations applying for background checks on potential new employees applying to work with young children or vulnerable adults, to submit their applications as early as possible.  Due to the demand for enhanced checks, it is likely to take longer than the anticipated four weeks to process these applications. CIYD has been advised that 90% of applications will be responded to within 8 weeks.

We would apologise to all our customers for this delay.  We are working hard to resolve this and hope to return to a 4 week turnaround in Autumn 2008.  In the meantime, you are urged to send applications to AccessNI as quickly as possible to reduce potential impact of this on your organisation.

More than 4000 applications have been processed by AccessNI and 3000 certificates have been issued since it was launched at the beginning of April.
