Over the last year, the Church of Ireland Youth Department following ongoing consultation with the Department of Education & Youth Affairs Section (Republic of Ireland) received a grant towards a thorough quantitative and qualitative survey of youth ministry across the Church.

The Church of Ireland Youth Department is pleased to announce that Mr David Gardiner has been sourced as an external consultant with the specific task of coordinating this survey.  The survey will aim to...

  1. To evaluate the scope and quality of youth work in the Church of Ireland by -
  • a. Providing a quantitative analysis or ‘accurate picture' of the range, extent and nature of youth work activity across the Church of Ireland, including levels of participation.
  • b. Providing a qualitative analysis of the extent to which the Church's youth work activity is effective and relevant in meeting the needs and aspirations of ‘users'.
  • c. Reporting on the experiences and views of those who organise, co-ordinate and provide youth work programmes and services on behalf of the Church - including the limitations facing youth work as seen by the Church's youth work practitioners.
  1. To provide an analysis of CIYD's data collection processes and its capacity to provide effective co-ordination and support services to those who deliver the ‘on-the-ground' youth work activity across the island.

It is encouraging to note that the Church of Ireland over the last number of years at a Parish, Diocesan and indeed Provincial level has witnessed growth in youth ministry and participation by young people.  There is a strong need however to develop a clearer ‘picture' of this vital ministry.  To this end CIYD would very much appreciate your support in assisting the consultant.  It is David's intention, within the next few weeks, to survey Parish and Diocesan youth ministry through the use of a questionnaire.  Please do take 10-15 minutes to fill in this questionnaire and return in the self-addressed envelope when it arrives through your post box.
